recording.

[ahem.] hello !
...

[ rose nudges lyvia .]

right , right , uhh
so , Skel here has discovered some new clade of flower !
or at least he's found one individual of it
uhh, we've been given a petal sample , but it's kind of " dead " now ?

it seems like a carnation flower petal.

[ rose goes offscreen to the right .]

you're lucky i brought my scientific instruments when i was moving in.

[ noises made by friction onto cardboard ]

you fixed the camera-video-input thing , right ?

[Lyvia faces the offscreen Rose.]

mhm. we're on .mp4 now, but i'm going to have to convert it to a .ttxt file,

[Lyvia faces the camera towards Rose.]
[H.Skel can be partly seen on the upper-right corner of the recording.]
[ noises made by a metallic or plastic casing gently placed onto the floor ]

since our camera is unable to upload .mp4's online.
i've tried, really.

i see .
and that is ?

[Zoom in to Rose and her instruments]

compound microscope, et al.
i have...somehow already prepared it?
...that's nothing, hopefully.

here's the petal .

[Zoom out]
[Lyvia holds out the petal to Rose.]
[ rose takes the petal .]
[ rose prepares the petal on a microscope slide .]
[ rose faces to the offscreen right .]

ah, hello Skel. i hadn't noticed you until now.

[Skel's voice is heard from offscreen just a beat later.]

..greetings - and.. my apologies.
i understand i don't exactly make my presence..
known.

that's alright.

didn't i say he was here ?

[ rose prepares the slide under the stage clip .]

then i didn't catch that.

[ rose opens the illuminator .]

soooo ...

hm?

how was your waaallk ?

it was great, actually.

[ rose looks into the eyepiece .]

i viewed a movie, "Project Hail Mary". it was very pleasant.

and you didn't tell me you were going to ?

[ rose faces lyvia .]

it was a local screening, and all the seats were already paid for by some guy.
that room was full of people.

[ rose looks into the eyepiece oncemore .]
[ rose switches the microscope's objective lens .]

what on earth?

what is it ?

[Lyvia comes over with the camera, both facing Rose.]

its cells remind me of a carnation's but...

yeah ...

[ rose looks up at lyvia .]

carnations don't usually have seeds on their petals and curl up when touched, do they?

nope ...

[ rose looks into the eyepiece twicemore , observing for a while .]

[scribbling is heard somewhere offscreen.. it sounded rather intense.]

amaze.

you gonna name it ?

yes, actually. "Dianthus oculipetalum", or "the Eyelid Pink".

... which means ?

Dianthus is the genus for carnations. "oculipetalum" is a compound of Latin oculus and petalum, meaning "eye" and "petal" respectively.
"eye" because the seeds look like one.

how do you know it's specifically a carnation flower ?

cell structure.

[ rose unclips the slide .]

right ,
and this is why i love you !

come again?

platonically .
you know i'm aroace .

right, right, ahem.
i forgot that solid samples larger than the microscope slide don't need to be clipped with one.

that's okay ! we've identified it now , at least .

you can stop the recording now, by the way.

right !

{{ thank you H. Skel / @ThatOneShopkeep for helping write even if it was for just a few lines !!! ^.^
